Chandrika-Art Gallery is an initiative of Mrs. Chandrika Gururajan.
Mrs. Chandrika Gururajan is deeply rooted into the arts and is a student of the great art master Mr. Balaji Srinivasan, Chennai. While she has worked on several art forms, she has been focussing her work on Tanjore Paintings more than 2 decades and has been interacting with customers from home. Having her own gallery has been a passion for many years and after much encouragement from her family members and many clients, this has finally been a dream come true!
Apart from Tanjore painting, Mrs. Chandrika Gururajan is an accomplished practitioner of Mural Paintings, Tribal Arts, Naathdhwara Paintings.
Tanjore painting is an extraordinary visual amalgamation of both art and crafts. Traditional paintings mostly depict only Hindu gods and goddesses, with Krishna being the most popular. The characteristics of the Tanjore paintings are its brilliant colour schemes, decorative jewellery with stones & the relief work covered with the real 22 carat gold leaf.
The paintings start at the smallest size of 8"x6" with the popular sizes being
8"x 10", 10"x12" , 15"x18. (Several customers have asked for very large paintings -30"x24" with their chosen themes to suit their preferences.) The general rule of thumb is a painting with just 1 simple figure without too many embellishments can be done in small to big sizes. In bigger sizes, the cost will depend on the overall size of painting and the number of figures on the same. For eg: say a 3ftx4ft painting with just Balaji will cost less than a 3x4 painting with Balaji with Dasavatharam surrounding the inner painting. Hence both the size and the work that goes into it determine the cost of the overall painting.
The paintings are further enriched with ornate beautiful frames. This adds another 2-3 inches overall to the painting size.
